On Penguins of Madagascar I implemented an artist-friendly pipeline for Procedural Feather Generation.
Feathers are complex. They are easy to generate procedurally but hard to do it right. We had to design a workflow that was procedural, art-directable and easy to debug. The feathers for Eva, a snow owl in the Penguins movie were developed using this system.
Jayesh & I implemented the feather generation system in Houdini. I implemented an artist-friendly feather pipeline in python for connecting the feather data flow from front-end department to final lighting.
